I want to thank all the members who came to the Second Annual Swap Meet. The website has been updated with a slide show with photos taken by Tammy. Turnout was over three times last year's. Weather brought out many on bikes but special thanks to those who brought parts out in their cars or trucks. Dave Cretser brought a whole wagon full of goodies including a fiberglass fairing which was purchased by Dave Williams. He is selling a Yamaha XT500 also (very affordable). Ron Arbour had sets of bookends made by a friend with engineering cutaway Amal carbs. What a way to display your manuals!
Please welcome new members Brett Simpson of Jordan, Bob Purdy of Fayetteville, and Frank Conaway of Oswego.
We held a short meeting of club business and discussed the collection of dues. New members signing up after May 1, 2009 will be responsible for dues of $10.00. Existing members will have a grace period til next May 1, 2010. Members who do not pay between January 1 and May 1, 2010 will regretably be dropped from the club roster and will not receive email or newsletters.
With the proceeds from the dues we would like to provide better benefits (food, accomodation) at meetings and a personal quest for me is to get enamel pins made with the club logo and also soft key tags with our logo and club name. From time to time we will try to offer for sale items such as hats or t-shirts.
Also the possibility of a newsletter was brought up. I would like to publish a newsletter 3 or 4 times a year containing not just photos but stories that YOU the members contribute. Stories regarding technical procedures, how-to articles, maintenance tips. Stories about how you were influenced to own a British bike. Stories about your first bike. Reports of local events as well as events that you travel to. Again not just pictures but how you got there, what you saw, who was there, which bikes won contests, who rode from how far, etc., etc.
I am still looking into the newsletter idea. Cost of publishing and mailing must be taken into account. However it would be a tangible legacy that our group can give to each other and to other enthusiasts. A newsletter can help promote the cause with other area clubs and their members and hopefully encourage people to enter into the world of Britsh motorcycles.
